Organizing a schedule for an entire school or business is hard work. You have to keep track of numerous people or classes, manage equipment and if you are not careful, you can make serious mistakes. You may cast part of the blame on faulty scheduling applications, but a better idea is to get a new program that would meet your demands. Lantiv Scheduling Studio can help you create school, collage or university schedules, as well as schedules for hospitals, conferences and employees. Its main advantage is the fact that it allows you to define your own resources, customize them and use them to create detailed schedules.

A trial version for Lantiv Scheduling Studio is available and it is fully functional. This means that you can use all its features, free of charge, without any restrictions or nag screens, until it expires. The program's setup file is only 6.37 MB and it can be installed in a few moments, on all popular Windows platforms.

The user interface consists of numerous options, organized in several sections, so you need to take your time and study its layout. The good news is that Lantiv Scheduling Studio is very well documented. You can find a detailed user guide on the developer's web site. Moreover, the program itself includes a series of sample schedules, so you will have something to experiment with, which can help you get used to the software's core functionality faster.

Once you create a new schedule or open an existing one, you will find a calendar, in the central region of the window, which can be set to a daily or weekly view. You can select an institution type, create and manage resources or activities and more, on the right side of the interface. Most categories will have different names and icons, depending on the selected institution type. For example, if you select a school or collage, you will organize students, teachers, courses and so on, but if you select a hospital, you will organize staff members, patients, wards, shifts and more.

Created resources appear in lists or tree structures, on the right side of the interface and you may customize them in the same area. You can color code and abbreviate them, assign other resources as sub-groups and schedule them. Scheduled items appear as colored boxes, on the main calendar, aligned with their corresponding days and hours. If you wish to reschedule an item, you can just drag it to another cell.

The software can detect any scheduling conflicts and it warns you when you make a mistake. For example, if you place more than one item in the same cell, a pop-up message will appear, with options for removing one of the items, continuing or cancelling the move. To make them easier to spot, all detected conflicts are listed in one of the sections, on the right side of the interface. Resources can be used as filters as well. If you select one or more items, they will be the only items displayed on the calendar. It is also possible to create detailed reports, with certain resources, for specific days or periods.

Pros

The program is very flexible when it comes to creating schedules. You may create your own resources and customize them. Lantiv Scheduling Studio allows you to create schedules for schools, businesses or hospitals, but you can also create schedules for generic institutions.

Cons

Despite its modern and sleek design, the user interface is a bit overloaded with options, so you need some time to learn how to use the program. Lantiv Scheduling Studio gives you complete freedom to create well organized schedules, for any type of institution.
